On Monday, May 20, 2013, an EF5 tornado pummeled through Moore, Oklahoma leaving in its path an unfathomable trail of destruction. Running through a heavily populated area of Moore, it destroyed schools, neighborhoods and took the lives of 24 Oklahomans, including 9 children. The tornado was over a mile wide at its peak, and despite following roughly the same path as the 1999 Bridge Creek–Moore tornado, very few homes and neither of the schools had storm shelters.
